Final boarding call..

A friend for every year that I live
And a moment to spare for when I leave
But most importantly while I still breathe
Will you be by my side when I need to believe?

For not every day will be sunny and bright
And not always will my mood be right
There will be blues and violets and greens
And yet some others that are yet to be seen

I'd rather live with you and die alone
Than waiting all along and exist forlorn
Not that I wouldn't appreciate a handful of earth on my coffin
Or a final goodbye on my way to hell or heaven

I would rather have handshakes alive than wreaths on my grave
Conversations in person than praises engraved
For words that you say will be etched in my soul
And not ring hollow on a tomb stone that covers a hole!
